The 75th annual event is being held in the city located on the French Riviera until May 28th, but the proceedings were disrupted by a naked woman as the cast members of “Three Thousand Years of Longing” walked down the red carpet carrying signs that read “Stop.”
She had the phrase “Raping.Us” painted across her chest, and she finished off the look by painting blood-red handprints around her underwear in the form of paint.
On Friday, a female protestor was removed from the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival after she protested against sexual violence against women in Ukraine, much to the surprise of several celebrities who were present there. The woman could be seen in videos of the incident that were posted online in a semi-naked state with paint on the lower part of her body as she approached the red carpet before she was escorted off by security guards.
According to witnesses, the woman knelt down screaming in front of the assembled photographers after taking off all of her clothes and then stripping down to her underwear. The officers were seen running over to her and covering her with a coat as soon as they arrived.
The protester had painted the words “stop raping us” across her chest and abdomen using paint in the colours of the Ukrainian flag and had covered her entire body in the paint. In addition to that, it looked like the woman had blood-red paint all over her lower back and legs, and the word “scum” was written on her back.
Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, two of the film’s stars, were present when the altercation took place at the premiere of George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing. According to reports, the director as well as the actors were present when the episode was filmed.
The Cannes Film Festival, which takes place every year in the summer in Cannes, France, is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious film events that can be found anywhere in the world.
