A MotoGP for India – webBikeWorld

Dorna Sports, the dad of MotoGP proper, has just signed the paperwork for the Grand Prix to start in India – and to say the industry is excited would be an understatement.

We are talking about the largest two-wheeler market in the world here; and given that Saudi Arabia has also recently struck a deal with Dorna, the news – while welcome – comes as less of a surprise and greater recognition of MotoGP’s growing reach around the world.

According to the report of AutoCar Indiathe event is dubbed the “Bharat Grand Prix” and will be held at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), with the potential to start as early as next year (although 2024 seems more reasonable, given that the FIM must approve the BIC first).

“[It’s] a no-brainer for MotoGP to come here given that India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market,” states the report.

“MotoGP continues to gain new audiences and fans around the world,” adds Dorna Sports general manager Carlos Ezpeleta.

“It forces us to expand its presence to new destinations where fans and riders are increasing every year.”

“India is key to our plan to take MotoGP to new frontiers.”

Thanks to a competitive grid and well-organized regulations, it’s also possible that MotoE will have a start in Bharat – although nothing has been confirmed on this yet.
