The redesigned 2023 Lexus RX is a crossover SUV with five seats that makes significant advances toward an electric vehicle-powered future. In the same vein as the 2022 Acura MDX, 2022 Infiniti QX60, and 2022 Lincoln Nautilus, the mid-size crossover can be had in either a premium or a luxury configuration, depending on the trim level.

Lexus has given its best-selling model a new exterior design, as well as a new platform, new powertrains, and a more streamlined interior design. Instead of being hemmed in by chrome, the diamond pattern on the grille extends all the way around the sides to the lower intakes, which gives it an even stronger impression of motion. Taillights that are more svelte and have a checkmark design that is more crisp hug the back, and a lightbar cinches the centre. Wheels measuring either 19 or 21 inches in diameter are available, giving the new model a more athletic appearance than its predecessor.

The new model is 198 pounds lighter than the previous generation thanks to a new platform that has increased rigidity and a new multi-link rear suspension system. The rear overhang was shortened by 2.4 inches, and the wheelbase was lengthened by the same amount, bringing the total to 112.2 inches. This should result in increased interior space. The current generation of the RX only has seating for five people, and Lexus has decided to do away with the RX L extended wheelbase model that had seven seats. At the time of the press, Lexus had not released complete specifications.

The Lexus RX now offers smaller, more potent, and presumably more fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engine options in place of the larger V-6 engines that were previously standard. The outgoing V-6 produced 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, and it had a combined rating of 23 miles per gallon. The new entry-level 2.4-liter turbo-4 in the RX 350 produces 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and it aims to achieve 24 miles per gallon combined. Power can be delivered to either the front wheels or all four via an automatic transmission with eight gears.

There will be a return of the hybrid model, but not as a V-6 with 306 horsepower or as the 450h. However, despite having a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine that generates 246 horsepower and 233 pound-feet of torque, the all-wheel drive version of the 2023 RX 350h achieves 33 miles per gallon on the combined test, which is an improvement from the previous year’s rating of 30 mpg.

The new RX F Sport Performance model comes equipped with a brand-new two-motor hybrid system, which represents the most significant update to the powertrains. The RX 500h F Sport utilises a 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine in conjunction with a motor on either axle to achieve standard all-wheel drive and a total system output of 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft, which surpasses the capabilities of any of the V-6 options available in the previous model year. Lexus claims it can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds thanks to its 6-speed automatic transmission, and its 6-piston brake callipers should help it better stop its 21-inch aluminium wheels.

Lexus has stated that further information regarding a plug-in hybrid vehicle dubbed the RX 450h+ will be provided at a later date.

The most significant changes to the overall design of the most recent RX can be seen inside the vehicle. The tiered dashboard and multimedia mishmash of its predecessor have been replaced with a more cohesive dash that is fronted by an available 14.0 inch touchscreen with an information and entertainment system that was designed for the North American market and first used in the 2022 Lexus NX. In addition to the touch elements, climate dials are included. The mechanical gear shifter in the console has been replaced with an electronic gear shifter. Even though there is less clutter and more uniformity, Lexus did not reveal the features that are exclusive to each trim level. Optional features include keyless entry, ambient lighting, a head-up display, and various types of wood trim, including Ash Bamboo and Black Open Pore.

The Lexus RX 2023 comes standard with the brand’s most recent generation of driver assistance technology, which includes automatic emergency braking equipped with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and a variety of other features.
